This morning, I walked around Ludwisgburg and saw the center of the city with Carola and her children. We also went to the Ludwigsburg Castle for an English tour, and I learned a lot about the history of the German monarchy. The castle has one of the longest hallways (in a castle) in the world, and it was positively beautiful.
Afterwards, we went to the famous Baroque Gardens that surround the castle, and we also saw the attractions that are technically on the castle grounds. This included a German fairy tales theme park (that was mainly for children), the old playground for the kings, and the bird cages.
After lunch in the gardens, we stayed in the theme park for a while since Maxi and Lia really like it. However, I found it all to be strange and a little scary. There were animated wax figures that acted out the stories. So between the wax people and the content of the stories (i.e. Max and Moritz, red shoes, etc.) I was sufficiently creeped out. Even the Maxi and Lia were afraid. During some of the not-so-nice stories, they would cover their ears.
Though, my favorite story/part was Rapunzel, which was a tall tower with long, fake hair hanging over the side of the tower. And when the children yell, “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!” into the speaker, the giant braid would drop a few feet. It was adorable.
After this exciting day out in Ludwigsburg, we were all pretty tired. So, Carola and I went out to dinner by ourselves before going to bed.
