Today Ivonne and I woke up early in order to roadtrip out to Neuschwanstein. There were lots of detours on the road because of construction, but luckily Ivonne brought her brand new TomTom. We had to go on a lot of country roads in order to get there.
Once we got to the castles, we bought our tickets to get tours of both Hohenschwangau (the smaller, older castle) and Neuschwanstein (the newer, Cinderella-esque castle). The Hohenschwangau tour was definitely cooler and more educational than the Neuschwanstein tour, but that’s mostly because King Ludwig II died unexpectedly when Neuschwanstein wasn’t even close to being finished. So there’s a lot less to see in the later castle. But both were still positively gorgeous! I took so many pictures!
Anyways, after the tour of Hohenschwangau, we took a horse carriage ride to get up to Neuschwanstein Castle. I will never forget how beautiful that castle is. When we got to the entrance, there were traditional German mountain horn players! It was all so cool! After the tour, we hiking over to Mary’s Bridge (a bridge built for Ludwig II’s mother, who loved to hike these mountains) and took tons of pictures of the castle.
After all this walking, we were positively starving, and so we ate traditional German food for dinner. I got kaesespaetzle, which is a cheese pasta kind of dish. After eating, we got ice cream and walked to the beautiful Alpsee, which is the lake that the castles overlook, before we drove back to Ivonne’s home.
